The Newest Book On My List

Jodi Picoult has been my all time favorite authors, because the point of view she writes from is very versatile and unique. Looking at a situation from one point of view all of us can do, but looking at it from all aspects or perspectives is something we all wish to do, and Jodi can do that. Her books are authentic, and unique creating an odd feeling of pleasure and pain at the same time. Pleasure reading such a well written book which arises so many emotions and pain because of the reality she has written about. I personally love all her books and this is her newest book, which came out in March.

"HOUSE RULES is about Jacob Hunt, a teenage boy with Asperger’s Syndrome. He’s hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, and like many kids with AS, Jacob has a special focus on one subject – in his case, forensic analysis. He’s always showing up at crime scenes, thanks to the police scanner he keeps in his room, and telling the cops what they need to do…and he’s usually right. But then one day his tutor is found dead, and the police come to question him. All of the hallmark behaviors of Asperger’s – not looking someone in the eye, stimulatory tics and twitches, inappropriate affect – can look a heck of a lot like guilt to law enforcement personnel -- and suddenly, Jacob finds himself accused of murder. HOUSE RULES looks at what it means to be different in our society, how autism affects a family, and how our legal system works well for people who communicate a certain way – but lousy for those who don’t." - http://www.jodipicoult.com/

“Intelligent, obsessive: House Rules is one of Picoult’s best!”

— USA TODAY

“Picoult’s superb novel makes us inhabit Jacob’s solitude and abide his yearning.”

A Beautiful Mind

'One of the best movies i have seen in a very long time.
It makes you think what is reality?'

Recently I watched the movie a beautiful mind . I believe it truly is an extraordinary movie that makes you question everything. Although it is about John Nash and his genius economic theories, the message is much more profound than one can think. For me, this movies makes me question reality. How do i know what i am seeing is real? Who justifies what reality? The answer lies within you. You see the world around you the way you want. You make your own reality to satisfy yourself. And the reality that you see makes you who are.

John Nash created his own reality and through his reality (although it was a medical condition) made him the genius he is known to be. His experience through his so called "reality" is what compels him to be the best.

Reality i believe is ones own perspective of everything. Either you can make your reality good or bad and that decision lies within you. Because the way you see things sums you up. I love this movie a lot because it has a deeper meaning to all of it. Its the meaning of life and what it truly is. As they say in the movie "i can only be sure, that nothing is for sure." Life is not laid out for you, you lay it out for yourself to become who you want to be. Thats why make the most of life.

The Newest Pirates Sequel

Pirates of the Caribbean's Fourth Part is said to be out in 2011
It called Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Its said that Keira Knightly would be replaced by Penelope Cruz
and there will be no Oliver Bloom. I cant wait. It's said that it will
coming in 3D, which will be new to these sequels.
Im extremely
excited about this movie. Although i'
m doubting the success it will
have without the two main stars. BUT Johnny Depp alone can make
this movie go to its zenith. Cant wait till 2011 =)

Why I Take Good Care of My Memory Box

Why I Take Good Care of My Memory Box

By Gulrukh Shafiq, Grade 11

Because it’s beautiful and silent like a sleeping peacock

Because it opens the way an eagle opens its wings to fly

Because it’s innocent

and honest like a newborn kitten

Because it reminds me of myself

and secures things I value

Because when I open its lid, it sings to me beautifully like a nightingale

It squeaks at times because it’s old

Every time it falls, it survives

Just the way pigeons often fall but are able to fly again, higher than ever

It smiles when I clean it

Because it moans with pain when I close it aggressively

Because it’s alive but never moves, like alive sponges on the ocean floor

Because it’s ugly when it doesn’t open,

also when it’s empty

Because somehow it’s changing all the time

Because I can ignore it, but it can never ignore me.

Because it’s stuck in one place, forever it will say there.

What's In My Heart

What’s in My Heart
By: Gulrukh Shafiq, Grade 11

Absurd things,

like paper clips. Needles thread and scissors,

far away from each other. An old-fashioned camera with extra memory capacity.

Some chocolate wrappers, too perfect to be trashed.

A few unplanted seeds waiting for life. Pencil shavings scattered her and there.

But more importantly, expensive restaurants, unpaid bills, unsettled quarrels.

Ending with fits of laughter.

Pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that can be solved when there’s enough time

Some things that could be sweet. Sugar that is poisoned, bitter honey. Forbidden destinations. Tears harmonizing with happiness.

Bad hair days, seesaws and so many flowers deprived of their life.

Unexpressed thoughts, undelivered messages. Strange regrets.

Disgusting-looking delicious food. Sounds of thumps and vibration.

Perplexity in confusion, unanswered questions.

Someone closed in a glass jar, someone I think is me.
